IT’S ALL I WANT ❤️

There are many Believers of JESUS CHRIST in the world.  Some people will speak about HIM aloud; others may not. I vehemently say to my readers that I love the LORD, and I gratefully praise HIS name.

{GOD is so good to us and I thank HIM.}

{GOD only wants our heart. When we give HIM our heart, everything else will fall into place. Trust HIM.}

Jeremiah 29:11  ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

YOUR CHARACTER IS YOUR BRAND๐Ÿค”

How are you branding your name?  Your character and name are synonymous to your brand.  Once your character is known, when your name is spoken, your character will come to the mind of others and there you have it; your brand is stated.

Character is the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual.

Some “Good Character” traits are:
  • Honesty.
  • Loyalty.
  • Respectfulness.
  • Responsibility.
  • Humility.
  • Compassion.
  • Fairness.

⭐️Brand your name well by having exemplary character!

๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ‘ง‍๐Ÿ‘ฆ Bullying Is Unacceptable: Bullying Prevention

*
Bullying has become a major problem in our society.  Children are bullying other children in school and online. We need to “actively” do something to extinguish it. Bullying is unacceptable. When children feel comfortable to report when they are bullied, when they witness others being bullied and when adults stop the first sign of it in every case, in time, bullying will not be the major problem that it is today. Adults should monitor children’s behavior and ask questions about their day regularly.

Statistics
  • About 42 percent of kids have been bullied while online with one in four being verbally attacked more than once.
  • About 35 percent of kids have been threatened online.
  • About 58 percent of kids and teens have reported that something has been said about them or to them online.
  • Other bullying statistics show that about 77 percent of students have admitted to being the victim of one type of bullying or another.
๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ
http://www.bullyingstatistics.org/content/bullying-statistics.html

*Children are increasingly choosing to take their own life because they no longer can handle bullies and how bullies have made them feel. Some children are taking matters in their own hands by becoming violent and bully others themselves, often times resorting to even killing because they have gotten fed up with being taunted, called derogatory names, being hit, shoved around, embarrassed in front of others, and yes even threatened.  This must stop.

๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ
https://www.stopbullying.gov/

Children should not fear other children or be reluctant to go to school or wonder about what “Tommy”, “Jane”, “Michael” will say or do to them. They go to school to learn and to be with their friends. They should be enjoying their life from day-to-day.

๐Ÿ“ŒHow can you help extinguish Bullying?
1. Talk with your children about bullying. Give them examples of what bullying is and include the first signs of bullying such as negative comments about their hair, clothes or anything that makes them feel uncomfortable. Tell them that they should report any problem that they are having, not only to their teacher or a school official but to you (their parent) as well. Tell your children that they should not bully anyone and discuss consequences.
2. School districts should have an anti-bullying program in place and each school in the district should be required to implement the program each school term, including participation from parents, community and local authorities such as the sheriff and/or police department for support. Consequences should be clear to students. Parents should ask their local school district about Bullying Prevention programs and how Bullying is addressed in their school.
3. Online Bullying is becoming more prevalent since children communicate using electronic devices such as their cell phones, iPads, tablets, and computers. This is called Cyber Bullying.  Parents should closely monitor the activities of children and have rules in place for misuse of their electronic devices, especially when it relates to bullying others.
4. All children should know that they will be safe if they report any incidents, whether if bullying happens to them or if they witness it happening to someone else.

{No child should feel isolated, alone nor fear anyone.}

*Bullying Prevention is important. Adults can get ahead of what could become a major problem for children just by addressing it EARLY and OFTEN.

๐Ÿˆ INSANE 7 Overtime Win!!!

*
In an EPIC win, the Aggies took down the Tigers!

“Texas A&M is a coeducational public research university in College Station, TX.  It is a state flagship university and is one of the 10 biggest endowment systems in the nation.”  -Wikipedia

It is said that Texas A&M provides the best return-on-investment among Texas’s public schools. Now, that’s a great reputation to have and is deserving of the recognition. But this Blog is about their football game win yesterday. It will go down in sports history as one of the thrillers of the 2018 collegiate seasons.

๐Ÿˆ Led by Head Coach Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M’s football program had not been on the map for being one of the most high-ranking in terms of winning most of their games this season.  Their rank is No. 22.  When the Aggies played the LSU Tigers yesterday, ranked No. 7, anyone who saw the game or heard about it will have to give credence to the Aggies for having “fight” in them. Whatever the coaches told them and whatever the players were feeling, they played on the gridiron with not regular unleaded gas rather high octane. Their determination to win was evident.

In a seven overtime, unprecedented game, the Aggies defeated the Tigers 74 - 72!   The game was epic! The Aggies had not beaten the Tigers since joining the league in 2012.  Amongst many notable moments of the game, LSU’s QB was getting sacked and stacked like Texas oil money.

The LSU Tigers put up a good defense against the Texas A&M Aggies but the Tigers’ drive was too much on Saturday, November 24, 2018...a historical date for the Aggies, an unforgettable win for college football!

Family Chefs ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

*
What could be a potential problem with having great cooks (who could easily could be deemed as unofficial chefs) in a large Family?  Well... if you don’t come to the table once the food has been prepared, you just might not get any....not even a tiny morsel.  I have several Family members who cook and bake very well, including my children, son-in-law, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, and a nephew-n-law.  My son enrolled in two culinary art classes in high school but his real cooking skills come from a love for cooking and serving others. He knows what to do with Porterhouse and T-Bone steaks!  My nephew-in-law is one of the best bakers ever.  His cheesecake is better than Sara Lee’s.  And he and his Mother-in-law (my sister) can make a gumbo just as delicious, or better, as the ones made by notable New Orleans chefs.  Seriously!  Of course, I say that without bias.  ๐Ÿ˜Š But don’t expect them to freely share all of their recipes. Some things must be kept close to the chest.

Here are a few pictures of what Thanksgiving Day 2018 looked like for some of my Family members who live along the Northeastern seaboard.

Bacon Apple Monkey Bread: My Sister who lives in MD baked this masterpiece.

Prepared By Sister In MD: It’s our Sister’s, who lives in GA, potato salad recipe and then she added her own twist.

Some of Thanksgiving Day 2018 Delights: a little broccoli for the kiddos, sauteรฉd baby spinach and baby kale with garlic {not pictured}, potato salad, my niece’s famous stuffing, macaroni and cheese, ham, copycat Ruth Chris' stuffed chicken (stuffed with a cheese mix), sweet potato souffle, sweet potato pie, and pecan pie

Needless to say, we’re thankful for the talented cooks in our Family.  But the magic of it all is that we often gather in our perspective cities and “break bread” together, and the meals are very similar as what’s pictured. We’ve done this over a span of many years and with the Lord’s continual provision, we’ll maintain the tradition.

Gratefulness + Good Food + Family Love = Family Tradition

Blessed beyond measure,

๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸฝHBCUs: An Abundance Of Excellence

๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿฝ‍๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿฝ‍๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿป‍๐ŸŽ“ Historically Black Colleges and Universities {HBCU}

*If you don’t know much about HBCUs and the successful people who graduate from them, it’s my pleasure to enlighten you. Some people are not as educated about HBCUs as they could be; some are just inherently misinformed. The only way to correct misinformation is with receipts

“Historically black colleges and universities are institutions of higher education in the United States that were established before the Civil Rights Act of 1964 with the intention of primarily serving the African-American community.” -Wikipedia

*NCES figures show that in fall 2015, the combined total enrollment of all HBCUs was 293,000, compared with 234,000 in 1980.
http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2017/02/28/a-look-at-historically-black-colleges-and-universities-as-howard-turns-150/

Many people are under the misconception that HBCUs are not diverse in terms of enrollment of other races. Now that’s “fake news”.   In fact, “Black students constitute approximately 76 percent of students attending HBCUs. Students from other racial and ethnic groups, on the other hand, comprise the remaining 24 percent. The enrollment at HBCUs is further divided into 13 percent white students, 5 percent students whose race or ethnicity is unknown, 3 percent Latino and Latina students, 1 percent Asian-American students, 1 percent of students who identify as biracial or multiracial, and 1 percent of students classified as undocumented students.”  Some students who want to enroll in top-notch engineering programs, medical school, business school or want to major in computer science, nursing, and other majors select a HBCU institution.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_5810f309e4b0990edc2eba03/amp

There are great, higher learning institutions all over the world. Attending a PWI (Predominately White Institution) or a HBCU is “a choice”.  Both are worthy of recognition. It’s important not to underestimate the value of what HBCU graduates bring to the table.  A few graduates told me, “There is a sense of pride after graduating from a HBCU, partly because of the foundation and history of why they were founded.”  The objective is not to discount PWIs’ excellence in education; HBCUs have proven their educational excellence as well. They are not only necessary but significant for society...for the future.

Listed are only a handful of well-known, successful HBCU graduates. There are so many more.๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฝ

An Abbreviated Blog...Yet Poignant

No matter how often I travel, whether via plane, the rails, drive myself or if I hire a driver, I still marvel at the ability to be in one place one day and in another place in just a matter of hours...even another country possibly. Our ancestors did not have such privileges and conveniences as we have today.  Many of them paved the way for me (and you) to make life easier. I'm taking full advantage of their trajectory, brilliance, ingenuity and inventions that we may take for granted---and should not. AND I'm helping to pave the way for the next generations.

๐Ÿค‘AMAZON: 2ND HQ Decision

*
๐Ÿ“ŒWith much anticipation from people who are in business, investors, contractors and yes even consumers, Amazon has announced their decision for the location of their second Headquarters. But there’s a surprise element.  They decided on a split. NYC and Northern Virginia will share the second HQ.  They believe they can recruit top talent by being in two locations.

“Amazon said it will invest a total of $5 billion and that each location would get more than 25,000 jobs, paying an average of more than $150,000.”

Amazon is “prime” business and time will tell just how more “prime” it will become with this recent, mega-business decision.

MICHELLE OBAMA: “I felt lost and alone.”

⭐️Former First Lady, Michelle Obama, has been in the news lately about her new book. So many people, particularly women, admire and love Mrs. Obama so whenever she’s interviewed, her comments become headline news. She recently told Robin Roberts, Good Morning America’s co-anchor, that she felt lost and alone during a period of her life when she miscarried her and former President Barack Obama’s child.  Not many of us knew that she endured a miscarriage.

Mrs. Obama’s miscarriage is only one of “the reveals” in her new book, Becoming.  In her book, she discusses suffering the infertility treatments that helped her conceive daughters Malia and Sasha.  Her book is a memoir and entails much about her personal life. She doesn’t hold back; instead, she shows how strong yet ‘human’ she is even more.  Her goal is to help others “go through” and win! Are we surprised?  That’s just who Michelle Robinson Obama is.

During her interview, Mrs. Obama said growing up in her neighborhood, "you could get your butt kicked going to school if you looked too uppity or if you were studying too hard."

"My parents, from a very early age, encouraged us to put our opinions on the table, to ask questions, to question the context of situations. They encouraged us to understand the context," she said. "You could speak your mind, but you had to be respectful, you know? And if you got outta hand, you got a look. You'd get a spanking... they weren't free wheeling parents. They were still black parents. But they believed in teaching us to think for ourselves."  Her parents, Fraser and Marian Robinson, helped her build a sense of self, emphasizing education and excellence.  Mrs. Obama has one sibling, her brother Craig Malcom Robinson.

๐Ÿ”ถ”My Living Shall Not Be In Vain”

*

๐Ÿ”ถ  I watch Greenleaf on the OWN network. ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿฝ The backdrop of the successful series surrounds a mega church that is operated by a Black American family and includes stars like Lynn Whitfield, Keith David, Oprah, Kim Hawthorne, Merle Dandridge, Desireรฉ Ross, Rick Fox, LeToya Luckett, Lamman Rucker, Gregory Alan Williams, Lovie Simone, Tye White, and Deborah Joy Winans.  The series is very, very good.  The predominantly Black cast's performances keep me on the edge of my seat wkly.  The drama series is indicative of so much that's going on in the world today; it sort of serves as a magnifying glass on the turmoil that's spinning in some people's lives. People go through "drama" from time-to-time; it's life; life happens.  Some things we bring on ourselves and other things are caused by others' irresponsible actions. But doesn't it feel good to know that all-in-all, EVERYTHING is temporary?  *Christians serve a GOD who brings enormous joy to our spirit when we practice Faith and wait on HIS response. And when we “do good”, help others and live an obedient life, we reap a rewarding life worth the living.

I attached a short clip of a video of a few Greenleaf characters (Deborah is a member of the famous Winans Family) singing "My Living Shall Not Be In Vain”.

As a follower of Christ, I never believe that life will not get better than any temporary circumstance.  *No mountain is insurmountable. HIS omnipotent-omnipresent power will always prevail.

Bless your journey,

If I can help somebody, as I'm singing the song
You know, my living shall not be in vain”

๐Ÿš˜ CHILD TRAGEDY BY SEAT BELT

*
This week, a seven year old tragically lost his life due to seat belt strangulation.  The horrific accident caused devastation for his Family, others who knew him and even those {like me} who didn’t personally know him but was heartbroken when they heard the unfortunate news. Loss of life can be heartbreaking for loved ones; the loss of a child is the most devastating experience a parent can face.

Favor: Perspective And Interpretation

*

๐Ÿง Perspective Is Everything  ~  Interpretation Is Powerful

1.  Whatever you do not respect will move away from you. What you attempt to live without, you probably do not have a high regard for. Respect is an invisible attitude yet visible when you show it to others. *You can just about get anywhere you want with just having respect for others and for yourself because although Man may not recognize it, GOD will. HE will reward you for exercising it.  That is my perspective.

2.  Whatever you cannot make happen for yourself, GOD will. What you make happen for others, GOD will make happen for you.  That is my perspective.

3.  The secret in your future success is hidden in your daily routine. Your passion for something shows when you spend time and enormous, consistent effort in that area. Time spent on anything will show up later---usually as a success.  For example, Tiger Woods had been golfing with his dad since the age of two. What is Tiger doing today?  Golfing. And he’s successful and known worldwide for it. He never gave up; GOD never gave up on him. That is my interpretation.

4.  Your rewards in life are decided by the kinds of problems you are willing to solve for others.  That is my perspective.

5.  If you insist on taking something GOD did not give you, HE will take back something HE gave you.  That is my interpretation.

6.  An uncommon seed will always create an uncommon harvest. Time is a seed; love is a seed; patience is a seed. Whatever you plant, you shall harvest. Whatever crisis is in your life, GOD will correct and magnify in your life exponentially. How you go through will determine your breakthrough. Your obedience and trust in HIM will be rewarded. Your miracle will happen. That is my interpretation.

7.  What you think is taking so long to receive an answer for is just a whisper in the wind away. Respect GOD's timing. HE created time. HE knows exactly what you need. HE has to move people around and get things in order before HE positions you. No matter how tough a situation is, HE will resolve everything in due time. HIS help is uncommon. That is my interpretation.

8.  Pray for GOD’s wisdom. HE will show you favor...uncommon favor, unforeseen favor.  That is not only my perspective. That is not only my interpretation.  That is the Gospel.

*GOD shows favor to those who are obedient. {Refer to Psalm 145:19} Perspective is based on opinion but when we look at the Gospel {in the Bible}; that is the truth—the Living Word.

Bless your journey,

๐ŸŒ๐Ÿพ‍♂️๐Ÿฅ‹๐Ÿˆ My Athletic Family: Always Playing To Win!

*

There are people who are spectators, and there are people who play a sport(s). My Family played a sport at one time or another over the years, and some currently participate in a sport in one form or another whether it be football, martial arts, basketball, swimming, tennis, golf, softball, gymnastics, baseball, racquetball or cheerleading...perhaps even two at a time.

๐Ÿ—Participating in a sport not only helps build character, it reveals it. You learn how to win in life.

I could write a book about my Family when it comes to sports.  Sports have played a major role in our lives for a very long time. And based on how active our nieces, nephews, grandchildren and cousins are, the tradition will continue for decades to come. It’s uncommon to have a conversation when we’re together without “sports talk”.  While growing up, my Mom couldn’t wait for the basketball, baseball or football seasons to begin. Her first sport of choice was basketball. My siblings and I would hear her shouting with enthusiasm, “Look at him play that ball!”, “Now that’s how you do it!” or “I’m so proud of that young lady!”  She didn’t play any sport herself but she stayed abreast of what was going on in the world of sports; i.e., who fouled out of a game, who was drafted, what team was going to the championship level, etc.  My siblings and I would sit in the room with her and because of the excitement she portrayed watching teams compete, we adopted her enthusiasm and our interests grew. And there was no looking back. Sports became a part of our life and naturally, we gravitated toward people who also played a sport, people who have become longtime friends and in some cases, spouses. Then, when we became parents, we encouraged our children to play a sport—any sport they wanted to play.

“Sports teaches you to understand the meaning of a team. You need to be able to work with everybody; you don’t have to be their best friend.  You can experience the fun of competition and driving toward a common goal without pushing to bond in some major way with each individual on a project.”
-Kathleen Kennedy

“You can’t win unless you learn how to lose.”
-Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

Today’s blog will turn into a novel if I go too deeply with writing about my sports family.  To give you an idea about our traditional love for sports and as a tribute to my sports family, I’m listing sport of choice and former and current participation by relationship to me. Participation timeframe goes back decades.
