HONORING WOMEN SERIES: DEANNA ANDREWS

💫Because I respect and believe in the power of a woman, I’ve decided to honor women in 2019 and beyond on my blog page. There will be one woman “embraced” at least once per week. There will be “no biases”, and the women will be representatives of all walks of life from all over the world who contribute “positively” to family, community, city, state, country, and therefore the world.

🌟Today’s Honoree

PASTOR DEANNA ANDREWS has a passion for JESUS and helping lead people to HIS Kingdom.  She’s a compassionate woman which explains her commitment to help others. It’s becoming more and more contagious in her community and elsewhere because of her vision, consistent, positive example as a pastor and community leader and proven dedication to people in need of help.  She wants everyone to know about Christ’s love for all people.  She’s consistently encouraging her community [by example] to assist those in need. Pastor Andrews has been a warrior for the LORD all of her life. She was raised in the church as if it was her home because in her family, church meant worshipping HIM and helping family, friends and the community. Her parents ignited the Christian fire in her as a child and it was never extinguished. She never lost the fire to be “in service”, whether on Sundays or any other day of the week.  Pastor Andrews knows that “church” does not open on Sunday mornings and closes on Sunday afternoons. Church is every day of the week; it has no closed door schedule.

Pastor Andrews and her husband, Senior Pastor Kennedy Andrews, both minister at the Harvest For Lost Souls Outreach Ministry in Beaumont, TX.  There are three (3) locations: Beaumont, TX; Katy, TX and W. Palm Beach, FL.  Pastor Andrews does not look for prominence rather support from anyone who wants to plant a seed and invest in the lives of others. Her dedication and commitment to serve others are truly commendable but she looks for no rewards, no accolades from Man. Her reliance is on what Scripture teaches in
Matthew 25:21 KJV:
His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”

In the Old Testament, Isaiah 52:7 joyfully declares, “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!’ ”  Harvest For Lost Souls Outreach Ministry hosts many programs, conferences and events throughout the calendar year. Pastors Deanna & Kennedy Andrews’ ministry continuously serve the community in many capacities. Over the years, they have transported people to church, medical appointments, given away food, school supplies, clothes, cars, and the list is extensive.

Pastor Andrews and her husband Pastor Kennedy Andrews have two children. The ministry keeps them extremely busy. Their children assist them with community outreach.  The Andrews love attending their children’s sports events and other activities, and they enjoy traveling together as a family and spending quality time at home.

HONORING WOMEN SERIES: TAWANA B. FOLSTON

FIRST LADY TAWANA B. FOLSTON is no ordinary young woman by any means. She’s extraordinary. Today, First Lady Tawana is being honored for her commitment to “the church”. The church that I refer to is not a building rather people who are Believers in Christ and also those who need to hear the good news about HIM.  First Lady Tawana is a soldier for the Kingdom.  She’s not a woman who limits herself nor does she allow others to place limits on her.  She knows what her Divine assignment is and she respects it. First Lady Tawana is fearless because she’s GOD-fearing; beautiful because her heart is genuine. When others may think she’s being stubborn, it’s quite the opposite. In fact, the correct description would be relentless—relentless because she has a vision; she knows her purpose.  What makes her an extraordinary woman is her dedication to her mission to serve others—to serve as an example for women and people in general with a foundation to lead with GOD as her counselor. As a leader with her husband, pastor, at Life Destiny Church in Columbia, S.C., she’s committed her life to increasing the Kingdom. First Lady Tawana fell in love with GOD many years ago and she never looked back.

{Image: Folston’s Facebook Post}

First Lady Tawana, like many Christians, has “powered through” during her life journey. Her strong faith and tenacity kept her standing. And let’s not forget about her relentless spirit which has helped her survive circumstances that may appear insurmountable to some. If anyone expects her to give up on anything that can help others and promote self-improvement, it would be a mistake. She may change her course, but giving up is not an option for First Lady Tawana.  She knows and will affirm for anyone that [with GOD, all things are possible]. Patience and Strength have become her refuge.

If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.”
-Anonymous

First Lady Tawana has a smile that’s like medicine for the soul. It draws you in to want to get to know her.  Churches have several ministries: hospitality, worship music, ministry for the incarcerated, children’s church, marriage counseling, etc.  First Lady Tawana has the gift to serve in any area of ministry because her purpose is to serve others when she’s needed. She loves people and her overall desire is to reach wherever they are and lift them up. She realizes that helping others to heal can be done by kind gestures and talking about the LORD. It may be beyond some people’s imagination, but First Lady Tawana knows all too well that a love for GOD can help save anyone. She knows that she has to tell HIS story and HE will do the rest.

First Lady Tawana is married to Pastor Fred Folston and they have three children.  As a Family, they are very active in their community and other communities where needed. They take every opportunity to have Family fun at home and at events held in various cities.

South Your Mouth With Southern Food

Eating well In the South: From fine, white table cloth dining to backyard BBQs, the South knows how to do it! There are restaurants galore, and there are people who live in the South who can cook better than your Mama. I know; I took a chance saying that.

The South has a reputation of having a cuisine that will easily leave your palate with a wow factor. For my readers who live in the U.S. and countries outside of the U.S., the southern states include (by region):

South Atlantic States: DelawareFloridaGeorgiaMarylandNorth CarolinaSouth CarolinaVirginia and West Virginia. East South Central States: AlabamaKentuckyMississippi and Tennessee. West South Central States: ArkansasLouisianaOklahoma, and Texas.

I’m a foodie and love a good meal whether prepared by the “chefs” in my Family or the chefs at a reputable restaurant. The South has plenty to choose from. Every year, many cities host Restaurant Week. Several restaurants participate in a culinary celebration for customers to partake in enjoying a menu of palate-pleasing dishes, usually at a fixed price. Depending on the restaurant, a reservation may be required or there just may be open table service.

Here is a 2019 schedule for Restaurant Week by city that started in January. If you missed one this year, check it out next year. All participating cities may not be listed. Search your city of interest.

✨DR. KING: IN HIS HONOR, DON’T STOP DREAMING

January 21, 2019: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday

{January 15, 1929 - April 4, 1968} In honor of a pivotal and influential figure for all people, DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR., this blog is dedicated to him. Dr. King deposited a wealth of knowledge, leadership and fought for fairness and equality.  He was a man who stood for humanity and human decency. He simply stood for Civil Rights.

🌟As a Civil Rights Activist, Dr. King literally gave his life for a cause greater than himself.  He was relentless because he identified his purpose early in his life and he lived for that purpose until his death. Often threatened, Dr. King knew his life was in jeopardy by men who stood for hatred and evil. Not reaching the age of 40, he encouraged people before his death to continue the dream, to do good in this world and make a difference. Dr. King accomplished so much during his 39 years of life, even though he saw minimal results during his lifetime.  We should be inspired to do something that fills the void of others who are not being treated fairly. We should never become comfortable nor accept the mistreatment of anyone of any race.  We should be as passionate about equality and fairness -for all- as Dr. King was. There will only be one Dr. King, but each of us can do something to make life better for our fellow man, especially for our children’s future. Denouncing discrimination of any kind is a great place to start. As long as we have breath, we can position ourselves to be a part of the dream.

*Many schools and other structures carry the name of Dr. King. There are 950 streets named after him throughout the U.S.

We can, no matter our race, ethnicity, religion or gender, reach back on all plateaus and tell young people, remind all age groups, that they are beneficiaries of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. dream.  We, too, must have a dream. A dream requires remaining hopeful. Where there is hope, there is strength; when efforts are made to improve how life is today, a difference will emerge.

🌟The historical “I Have A Dream” speech was delivered by the gifted Dr. King on August 28, 1963 in Washington, DC with 250,000 people in attendance. It was a defining moment that will be considered a masterpiece oratory until the end of time.

Assasinated on April 4, 1968, Dr. King would have been 90 years old this month. Dr. King’s wife, Coretta Scott King, a Civil Rights Activist who was also pivotal for the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s, died in 2006. They had four children: Yolanda King {Deceased}, Martin Luther King III, Bernice King and Dexter King.

Today is a federal holiday, a day designated to celebrate and honor the life of a Civil Rights Leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Honor him well!

HONORING WOMEN SERIES: MALALA YOUSAFZAI

💫Because I respect and believe in the power of a woman, I’ve decided to honor women in 2019 and beyond on my blog page. There will be one woman “embraced” at least once per week. There will be “no biases”, and the women will be representatives of all walks of life from all over the world who contribute “positively to family, community, city, state, country, and therefore the world.

🌟Today’s Honoree
{Photo Image:  Internet Retrieved}

MALALA YOUSAFZAI is a Pakistani activist for female education and a Nobel Prize laureate.  Now 21, she’s the youngest recipient of the award, received when she was only 17.  The prestigious award is presented for outstanding work in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature, economics, and the promotion of peace.

“Malala is known for human rights advocacy, especially the education of women and children in her native Swat Valley in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northwest Pakistan, where the local Taliban had at times banned girls from attending school. Her advocacy has grown into an international movement, and according to former Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, she has become "the most prominent citizen" of the country.”
-Wikipedia

“Her memoir, “I Am Malala”, published in 2013, has sold 287,170 copies in Britain with a total value of about 2.2 million pounds ($3 million) and over 1.8 million copies worldwide, according to a spokesman from Nielsen Book Research. While Malala has set up the Malala Fund to support girls’ education projects in developing countries, her family also established a company, Salarzai Ltd, in 2013 to protect the rights to her life story.”
Despite the assasination attempt on her life at the age of 15 for being a known activist for female education, Malala was not deterred by the frightful experience. She is determined to be a voice for girls who have been silenced and living in fear. Malala’s bravery is more than admirable and deserving of being honored. She has the world in front of her, and she certainly has already been an example for girls and women to believe that they, too, have the strength to do great things for a purpose bigger than themselves. *Putting oneself in extreme danger is not encouraged for anyone. Courage does require a spirit of intrepid boldness, of which Malala has a heaping serving.
