HONORING WOMEN SERIES: DARLA MOORE

💫Because I respect and believe in the power of a woman, I’ve decided to honor women in 2019 and beyond on my blog page. There will be one woman “embraced” at least once per week. There will be “no biases”, and the women will be representatives of all walks of life from all over the world who contribute “positively” to family, community, city, state, country, and therefore the world.

DARLA MOORE is known to be powerful, innovative, and a woman of influence. A smart investor, she could make the sharks on the popular ABC show, Shark Tank, blush. Darla is not only interested in investing in various projects, she donates millions to educational programs. She’s quite the powerhouse but she also empowers others. She has received numerous of accolades over the years and one of them is being the first woman who was featured on the cover of Forbes magazine and was also named one of the Top 50 Most Powerful Women in American Business by the same publication.

Darla Moore is a native of Lake City, SC. She is the former president and a partner of the private investment firm, Rainwater Inc., and was married to Richard Rainwater, who founded the firm. Rainwater’s net worth tripled after Darla and Richard married. She’s one of the most unprecedented financier. Darla’a networth was $2.3 billion in 2012.

Many leaders have cracked glass ceilings; Darla breaks them and then rebuilds. One of Darla’s prize and successful projects is the Darla Moore School of Business in Columbia, SC. She poured millions into the construction of the business school, located on the campus of the University of South Carolina. I’m sure Darla has many proud moments as the International School of Business has ranked #1 in the nation for a consecutive twenty years. How about that?!  That’s more than impressive and earned. I encourage you to visit the school whenever in SC and soak in the impressive building’s features and amenities.

Richard introduced Darla to golf. Although he felt confident about his wife’s convincing, business-related abilities, he probably had no idea that after eighty years of Augusta National standing firm not to admit women as members that she would become the first woman to become a member in 2012. That’s right! Darla has the signature green, Augusta National Golf membership jacket in her wardrobe. How’s that for a hefty dose of innovation and influence!

Darla has committed her life to philanthropy. She has so many milestones that as a woman, I stand in awe and pure admiration. I also know that she has so much more on the horizon.

Darla’s husband, Richard, died in September of 2015. They have one son.

Encouraging all women to encourage and empower one another,
