💐“Give me my flowers while I can still smell them.”
For a long time, I perceived that sentiment as a reference to receiving flowers “before death” because it’s customary and traditional for people to send or take flowers to the loved ones of those who have passed away. Or flowers are sent to the funeral home.
I perceive the sentiment somewhat differently today. Yes; giving flowers to people is a kind gesture on any occasion, and yet there are so many other ways to give people “flowers”. Let’s look at flowers as sort of a simile just to make an emphatic and vivid point.
1. Call your parent(s) regularly. Stay in contact with them. See if they need anything.
2. Show respect to everyone.
3. Be kind to everyone, no matter if you know them or not.
4. Open doors for women, the elderly, handicapped citizens. Open the door for everyone; it’s a kind gesture.
5. Offer assistance to those who need help. Assistance comes in many forms.
6. Make donations to a charity that will help find cures or that will help people thrive such as the Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society, Safe Kids, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Feed The Children or any reputable, charitable organization. So many people in the world need our help.
7. Volunteer in your community.
8. Visit patients in the hospital; some patients have no one to visit them.
9. Compliment others for their life accomplishments.
10. Pray for others; pray with them.
11. Spend quality time with your spouse and/or children. Spend quality time with extended Family and friends.
12. Be a good neighbor.
13. Support your Family’s and friends’ endeavors. Keep them encouraged. Cheer them on!
14. Do your best work for your boss/company.
15. Always say ‘Thank you’.
16. Say, “I love you” and mean it.
17. Tell children that you’re proud of them—no matter what. There’s something in them to be proud about. Those words could change their life forever.
18. Show “awe-inspiring” love...a love that will make someone feel good about living.
All of the above are acts of giving real flowers. Gift people with flowers that they may not be able to smell but they certainly will be able to feel special while they still have breath.
⭐️Give others flowers {flowers that can be felt} every day—not after they’ve passed away. They certainly won’t be able to smell them.
Carpe Diem!
