HONORING WOMEN SERIES: MAYOR VI LYLES

💫Because I respect and believe in the power of a woman, I’ve decided to honor women in 2019 and beyond on my blog page. There will be one woman “embraced” at least once per week. There will be “no biases”, and the women will be representatives of all walks of life from all over the world who contribute “positively to family, community, city, state, country, and therefore the world.

🌟Today’s Honoree
                      {Photo Image: Internet Retrieved}

MAYOR VIOLA “VI” LYLES is the mayor of Charlotte, NC (affectionately known as the Queen City), the 17th most populous city in the United States.  “She’s been serving as the 59th mayor since 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, Lyles was a member of the Charlotte City Council before taking office as mayor.”   -Wikipedia

People say that Vi Lyles is what Charlotte needed as a mayor.  The Charlotte Observer published an article in December 2018 about her.  Republicans, such as N.C. Senators Dan Bishop and Andy Dulin, describe Mayor Lyles as “graceful” and look forward to working with her. Mayor Lyles certainly wants to achieve goals for her city. She’s always hard at work relationship-building with other leaders, increasing employment and business opportunities, cultivating productive partnerships and most importantly, she wants a safe Charlotte

Mayor Lyles has been wholeheartedly supporting the citizens of Charlotte since her first day in office.  As a former council member, she’s had an up close and personal look at what the city needs and how to serve its citizens. The metropolitan area is home of seven Fortune 500 companies. There are several professional teams; namely, Hornets, Panthers, Knights, Checkers and more. Major events are hosted by Charlotte throughout the calendar year. There are endless reasons to not only visit Charlotte but consider making Charlotte area home. There has been exponential growth and Mayor Lyles has an agenda to give people, from around the world, more reasons and incentives to bring business to her city, and she’ll continue to make business decisions to attract tourists.

{The Census Bureau publishes U.S. city populations per 10 years.}

Mayor Lyles said, “The best thing about the city is the people.”  The mayor has a large city to lead and standing with her, the citizens of Charlotte have faith in her abilities. “I want to make it as easy as possible for citizens to request a meeting with me...” That statement alone says a lot about the gem that the people of Charlotte has as their mayor.

Mayor Lyles has four children. Her husband passed away in 2015.

HONORING WOMEN SERIES: ALLISON SPRY WAYMYERS

💫Because I respect and believe in the power of a woman, I’ve decided to honor women in 2019 and beyond on my blog page. There will be one woman “embraced” at least once per week. There will be “no biases”, and the women will be representatives of all walks of life from all over the world who contribute “positively” to family, community, city, state, country, and therefore the world.

🌟Today’s Honoree
{Photo Image: Internet Retrieved}

It is my distinct pleasure to honor ALLISON SPRY WAYMYERS. Allison has accomplished so much in her young life.  Within her repertoire of professional positions, she’s weaved in a philanthropic path; Allison unselfishly gives of her time and resources to catapult others in the direction they aspire to be personally and professionally. Her faith in GOD and trusting HIS guidance and wisdom have sustained her strength while she pushes for a ‘Yes’ when the world sometimes is more comfortable saying No. Allison does not accept ‘No’ because she knows that all things are possible with commitment and an innovative spirit. Highly motivated, she believes that people should always pursue their endeavors and never give up. Is this the recipe for her own personal and business successes?  The answer is a resounding YES. Allison’s multiple successes have proven that. And she has no plans to take her foot off the pedal of acceleration.

Allison showed strong leadership skills as a young child. When she was only nine, she entered the readers' contest sponsored by her school. She won 1st Place for reading the most books during summer break. Allison 'wowed' the judges with reading an impressive 300+ books, ranging from very short to long stories, within a two and one-half month period. That certainly gave insight to her tenacity and what was to come.

Fast forward, Allison has received the below listed accolades over the years and have been hired for positions that women and men dream about.  It's a short list of all she has accomplished thus far: 1. The State's Top 20 Under 40
2. Black Expo's Top 40 Under 40
3. Worldwide Who’s Who In Business
4. First Female Hired In A Leadership Role: Clemson Football - Coach Dabo Swinney
5. Designed An Inaugural Course: Paradigm Shift - Women Leading In Men's Sports
6. Leadership Columbia
7. National Council of Negro Women Living the Legacy Award

Allison seems to be a magnet for teaming with the best organizations. She's served in a leadership role for Clemson University's football program, a top-notch program that has won the national championship title three times.  Currently, she serves as the Director of MIB Graduate Career Education for the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina. The international business school has ranked #1 in the nation for 20 consecutive years. She's also a professor at Columbia College where she instructs an inaugural course that she designed. Is there anything that she cannot do? Allison is sought after by top-rated organizations because of her reputation of having an innovative mindset, being super resourceful, strategic, and obviously result-driven, not to mention she's one of the most motivating people you'll ever cross paths with.

Known to be razor-sharp, Allison is often asked to speak at events and company meetings. If you ever get the opportunity to hear her, you'll have an unforgettable "take-away". She's known to leave her audiences speechless and hungry for more.  Allison is also asked to be a guest on local radio talk shows. Despite her rigorous schedule, she manages to find the time to contribute to radio station program's mission. One of her statements that stands out amongst many is:  "We have so much to give of ourselves. If we don't share the gift that GOD gave us to serve others, then we'll shortchange many."

Allison is married with one child. She's a busy professional who always values quality time with her Family.  Amongst many things, she enjoys attending son's sports events, playing with him at home, and traveling.

One of Allison's favorite, poignant quotes is: "Upgrade your reality to your vision; don't downgrade your vision to reality."

HONORING WOMEN SERIES: ANNA GONZALES

💫Because I respect and believe in the power of a woman, I’ve decided to honor women in 2019 and beyond on my blog page. There will be one woman “embraced” on my page at least once per week. There will be “no biases”, and the women will be representatives of all walks of life from all over the world who contribute “positively” to their family, community, city, state, country and therefore the world.

🌟Today’s Honoree:
{Photo Image: Facebook}

Relentless. Committed. Enormous Spiritual Strength. Selfless. Dedicated To Her Family.  Those are only a few words that describe ANNA GONZALES. Anna is the co-owner of JT’s Lawn Service in Kountze, Texas.  If you think she sits in a cool during summers and warm during winters office while supervising her employees and managing her business, you’d be categorically wrong. Anna is a hands-on entrepreneur. Winter, spring, summer or fall, she’s out mowing lawns, trimming trees, flowers, shrubs and trees, repairing, planting, and fertilizing grounds of various sizes. The list is longer; the Entrepreneur is super innovative. There is no landscaping equipment that Anna can not operate. Her adventurous, “I can do it” spirit will encourage any woman or girl to never say “No” nor “I can’t”.  Those are words that do not exist in Anna’s vocabulary. And she refuses to believe that certain careers are designed only for men. She has successfully proven otherwise. Is her landscaping business the center of her life? Oh no; Anna will not allow anyone to assume such. She professes her Faith often and it’s crystal clear that her Family means the world to her. But admiration for her should not stop there. Anna volunteers for her church, charitable organizations and where needed. She believes in the power of service. Helping others and putting a smile on faces is just who she is.

{Photo Image: Facebook}

Anna and her husband have four children and several grandchildren. When Anna is not working to satisfy her customers and spending quality time with her children, she and her husband attend social events and have well-deserved fun with family and friends.

Coach Staley has accolades longer than a basketball court.  She’s not a “bench warmer”—far from it. Coach Staley has broken several records and also received a host of impressive awards. As a player, she was noted as: one of the top WNBA players in history, ABL All-Star, WNBA All-Star, WBCA Player Of The Year Award, Honda Sports Award, Naismith College Player Of The Year, UBWSA Women’s National Player Of The Year, Member of the Basketball Hall Of Fame.

🏀 No doubt Coach Staley has accomplished much as a player, coach and especially now as the Head Coach for the University of South Carolina Women’s Basketball aka Lady Gamecocks. An unforgettable milestone among many for the Gamecocks is Coach Staley leading her team to the NCAA Women’s National Basketball Championship in 2017!  Columbia, SC couldn’t be any prouder of the Gamecocks! Coach Staley has brought a new game to the Gamecocks repertoire. Fans are loving Coach Staley’s style and relentless, leadership character to guide her team to the top.  Go Coach Staley and the Lady Gameocks!

📌The Aging Parent/Grandparent: Are You Available?

An aging parent or grandparent, who is 65+ years old, is a member of the elderly population. Are you giving them your time?

To the point, take time with your aging parents/grandparents and your elderly relatives. They need you. Call them regularly; visit them often. See if they need anything. If they live alone, it’s highly possible that they have lonely days. Treat them with respect. Show them the love and honor they deserve. Be considerate and kind. You will be a member of the elderly population one day, if GOD allows you with the years. Do unto them as you would want done unto you.

*Older people are projected to outnumber children for the first time in U.S. history. Read more information here.  👇🏼

A Facebook friend posted an image of an old Dear Abby Letter. Take the time to read the words verbatim. The letter may be old, but the words are still relevant for many elderly people. Take special care of your parents/grandparents and elderly relatives. Make a deposit in their seasoned lives.

Nothing But “Yummy-ness”: Family Holiday Dinner

I was not kidding when I blogged last month that I have chefs in my Family. It’s not any of their profession but one would never know the better. I have a very large Family. From the northeast to the southeast, my Family who lives in different states did not disappoint their perspective Family for their holiday dinner. The Family buzz is there was not a dissatisfied palate in any of the homes. They took pictures for me. Get ready! The photos will make you hungry. Seriously!
My Grandson could not resist tasting the icing on the Red Velvet Cake.  We encouraged him to go for it! Children must taste the icing when they have a sweet tooth and just because they have an urge to touch the cake; it’s inevitable. 😊

One of my sisters in MD started Christmas Day with baking homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast for her Family. She would’ve had to bake two pans of the rolls if I had been there. 😉

Family in the Carolinas served turkey as one of the dinner meats. The perfectly browned, falling off the bone turkey was prepared by Honey Baked Ham. It was one of the best turkeys that we’d ever had.  Bravo, Honey Baked Ham! 👏🏼

My Grandson helped his Mom bake cookies for Santa. He spread the icing on them and added sprinkles on top. This is their Mommy/Son holiday tradition. ❤️

Family in the Carolinas prepared mac and cheese amongst many dishes. As usual, it was so yummy! ☺️

My sister in GA prepared candied yams, one of the starring dishes, for her family. 😋

Carolinas Family: Rice, Lima Beans & Collard Greens were anticipated. We knew that they would be so delicious—from experience. 😁

GA Sister: Ham is one of those meats that must be served during a holiday dinner. She baked it perfectly. I wish I had been there! 👏🏼

One of my sisters in MD made “Creamy Garlic Parmesan Brussel Sprouts With Bacon”. Wow!

Beauties! My nephew-in-law deep fried the cornish hens.  Oh I could taste them just looking at the picture. 😊

MD Sister:  She’s one of the phenomenal bakers in our Family. She and my sister in GA bake superb pies.

I’m blessed to have extraordinary cooks in my Family who don’t cook just to feed their Family but because they really love cooking. Do I have a love for cooking like that? Hmm...not quite. 🙃 I do love eating their cooking! They need taste testers.  ☺️

I hope your holiday meal was just as wonderful with your Family!
